Mumbai : Bollywood actress Juhi Chawla on Monday moved the Delhi High Court against the installation of 5G wireless network in the country. She has knocked on the court’s door, raising various issues related to the effects of radiation on civilians, animals, plants and other organisms. The case came before Justice C Harishankar for hearing and he has transferred the case to another bench for hearing. The matter will be heard on June 2. Juhi Chawla said that once the plans of the telecom industry are completed, no person, no animal, no bird, no insect and no plant on earth will be able to escape its consequences.

Why does Juhi Chawla oppose 5G technology?

Juhi Chawla said that these 5G schemes have serious, irreversible effects on humans and threaten permanent damage to the earth’s environment. The petition, filed by advocate Deepak Khosla, seeks to direct the authorities to clarify whether 5G technology is safe for mankind, men, women, adults, children, infants, animals and all kinds of organisms.

Approves spectrum for large companies including Jio, Airtel

Meanwhile, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has allowed tests of select giants including Reliance, Airtel and MTNL to launch 5G testing in the country. According to sources, the department has allotted spectrum to telecom operators for this.

According to a report by Business Standard, sources in the telecom sector said that 5G tests will be conducted at various locations including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Gujarat and Hyderabad. In this regard, the telecom company official said that the telecom operator has been allotted spectrum at various places in the 700 MHz band, 3.3-3-6 GHz band and 24.25-28.5 GHz band.

The telecom ministry had on May 4 approved applications from Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea and MTNL. The department has asked them to test 5G without using Chinese companies’ techniques. The Department of Telecommunications had approved the testing of 5G with Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung and C-Dot. In addition, Reliance Jio Infocomm will test using its indigenous technology.

5G tests in cities as well as rural India

Currently the trial period will be 6 months. Among them will be a period of 2 months for equipment purchase and installation. According to the Department of Telecommunications, each operator will have to be tested in rural and semi-urban settings in addition to urban settings, so that citizens across the country can benefit from 5G technology. This service should not be limited to urban areas only. However, another industry source claims that no telecom operator has been allotted spectrum in Punjab, Haryana and Union Territory of Chandigarh.
