New Delhi: Finding an illegally issued SIM card is a big challenge for cardholders and the government. To address these challenges, the Department of Telecommunications launched a special portal. Through this portal you can find out if someone has used your mobile number without your permission. You can block it if another SIM card is issued in your name. Maximum 9 mobile connections in one person’s name

According to the guidelines of the present government, a maximum of 9 mobile connections can be given in the name of one person. A person may have been issued more than 9 mobile numbers and may be prosecuted if the Department of Telecommunications finds out about it.

The government increased the limit of eSIM to 18

In the year 2018, the government had increased the limit of 9 SIM cards to 18. But this new limit will only be available to customers with Embedded Customer Identification Module (eSIM). Users with eSIM do not need to purchase a new SIM card when making a new connection or changing service providers. It is only installed on the customer’s device. The details of the service provision are updated when making a new connection.

Why did the government issue revised guidelines?

The limit was increased from 9 to 18 by the Department of Telecommunications in view of the large number of SIMs for Mobile 2 Mobile (M2M) communications. Of these, 9 SIM cards can be used for mobile phones and 2 mobiles for 9 mobile connections. The revised guidelines of the telecom department came at a time when Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel have started selling Apple Watch Series 3. This smartwatch only has eSIM facility.
