This message is going viral on WhatsApp. People are sharing this message more and more. But in reality, the message is false and fictitious. PIB works to bring out the truth behind the post. The PIB has also exposed the forgery of the free internet claim which is going viral on the WhatsApp.
PIB wrote on its official Twitter handle about the viral message, in a WhatsApp message stating that the Indian government will provide free internet access to 100 million users for 3 months. This claim and link is fake. The Indian government has not made any such announcement. Beware of such fake websites, PIB has warned.
The message is completely fake
The related WhatsApp message is completely part of a scam. A link is given in the message and it says, ‘Government of India is giving 3 months free recharge to all Indians for online study of children. If you have a SIM card from Geo, Airtel or Vodafone Idea, you can take advantage of this offer.
What exactly is written in the message?
The viral message has photos of mobile companies along with a photo of the Prime Minister. Choose 1 SIM card written on the photo and get free internet for three months. This offer is only available till June 29, 2021. So far 95185 users have availed this offer. The PIB has clarified that the message is completely fake. The PIB tweeted that the claims and links posted in the message were fake. No such announcement has been made by the Government of India. Do not register on any such fake website. Clicking on such a fake link could expose your personal information to hackers or fraudsters. It is feared that the money in your bank account will be squandered.
